Good Manners Light Up the Day

Whenever I am aware I am driving slowly for whatever reason and there are cars hurrying behind me, when it is convenient for the car behind me to overtake, I usually flick on my left indicator very quickly, move a little closer to the roadside and, if the car overtakes, I slow down slightly so the other car has every opportunity to overtake safely.

Once they have overtaken, commercial drivers are far more likely than drivers of private cars to flash their lights as a 'thank you'. Today, a recovery truck flashed a quick 'thank you' to which I responded with a quick 'that's OK' flash. This driver went one step further and very briefly flashed his emergency lights on top of the truck!! It made my day!
